Afghan cricket team in Netherlands - My Story
Sep 2, 2009
As Afghanistan national cricket team arrived to Netherlands for cricket matches against Netherlands, I was looking forward to plan my visit to the team and cricket matches.
Because of my studies I could not join them in their first-class match, but was able to watch them as a fan in their ODI match. It was one of the beautiful moments of my life. The first time I was on a sport ground for supporting my team with Afghan flag in my hand. I had been waiting for this moment for a long time.
On August 29th. I with about 10 other friends went from Cologne Germany to Amsterdam Netherlands with Cameras to make a reportage for Shamshad TV.
Our friends Abdullah Ihsaan (of Larawbar.com), Ajmal Nang and few others had organized a private party to Afghan cricket players. Although it was Ramadan, but the party was worth of it.
Because it was a private party, they had invited only few close friends. there about 100 people in the party.
We arrived there around 20:00. They were all waiting for us. After introduction of players and a little chit chat it was time for Roja Matay (Iftari). Later there was music by Najib Nekzad some gift for the players.
We on behalf of our Tolana (Da Afghanistan da Kulturi wade Tolana - Da Zwanano Tsaanga) gave a Stayenlik (Appreciation letter) to Afghan cricket team.
I did some interviews with Afghan players and their coach for Shamshad TV. The players were all very friendly.
At about 23:00 the players left to their hotel and we started our own party!! We did attans and some poetry. It finished at about 01:00 and we went to a friends home. That night was really great. All the friends together discussing politics and general things. I think we went to sleep at 05:00 in the morning and woke up at 09:00 to get ready for the match.
At 10:00 I with some other friends went to the cricket ground for the match. The match started at 12:00. The atmosphere was great...Alot of Afghan fans with flags, drums and Afghan-flagged T-shirts had come to support their team. During the match I interviewed some Netherland cricket board officials and they were really impressed by Afghan cricket team and the support they had got there.
The match had really tense ending. It went to the last over, unfortunately Afghanistan lost, but it was great fight from them.
I had tears in my eyes for their lost so had the others as well, but winning loosing is part of the game!
The most important was that we enjoyed the game alot. It was one the great moments of my life.
After the match was finished we came back to our homes.
A day later Afghan cricket team beat Netherlands in Style, which made us all very happy and proud.
I wish I could take a picture of my feelings and uploaded it here so you could see how happy I was, watching my National cricket team playing live in front of me!!!!
